For What it's Worth; my educational journey so far

I've studied herbs for their magical value and folklore for as long as I can remember and started to rely on them for their health properties in 2011. Pretty much every book I purchased from 2012 up to date has had something to do with healing naturally or alternative medicine. A list of few of my favorite and trusted resources will be included at the bottom of this page. I am a Bargain Bin Hunter so I have come across quite a few stinkers as well, they will be left unsaid. In 2016 I decided I wanted to do something with this for my life. I like to say I finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up. Herbalism in particular was so helpful and changed my life in so many ways that I just wanted to help bring what I knew to others and hopefully they would help me to learn even more. I am only one person and can only learn about the things that happen in my own body. After I got married I learned about everything I could do to help my husband as well, that really broadened my knowledge. Now I want to be able to do this with anyone and everyone because I learn more plus I really get to know people more. That's when I decided to take steps forward and actually spend a little money on my herbal education. Still I'm a very frugal person and I don't have a great deal of expendable income so most of my trainings are still quite affordable and some were free. I encourage anyone that's interested to look up these courses and use them to grow their own knowledge. I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the instructors that enlightened me most when I was able to attend conferences (one in person and one online). The insights into their specialties opened up a lot of things for me in the way that I do my research and in the way that I address imbalances in my life and when helping others. Every learning opportunity counts. I also have to thank my friends, during my yoga teacher training I made many friends some of whom were also interested in herbalism, their knowledge and insights are of a great value to me and I consider each of them a resource worthy of mention. One friend in particular gifted me something I could have never hoped for and certainly haven't been able to afford myself. She was clearing out her bookcases and came across The Science and Art of Herbalism Correspondence course she'd taken years before with Rosemary Gladstar. And I couldn't be more grateful for having this resource in my library that I didn't pay for and don't deserve but absolutely love and use frequently, I reach for it all the time. This is the course that breaks down the body's systems whereas most of my other knowledge has always been about herbs to develop a stronger connection with each individual plant. I heard once and it's stuck with me forever that it is better to know 40 uses for one plant then one use for 40 plants so I've spent a lot of time just researching one plant at a time and how I can use it to benefit myself, family, and friends.

I will be the first one to tell you that for my herbal education I spent little to no money every step of the way. I believe that this is the type of education that should be available to all and was very lucky to find a website called learningherbs.com that shares that belief. I relied on and consumed content from them heavily until, upgrading to their membership website herbmentor.com. Here I listened to some of most of the courses but really became inspired by The Village Herbalist course with Heather Nic an Fleishdeir. They have a new course line up and I am excited to be diving into all new aspects with some new perspectives as well, herbmentor is worth the membership fee for anyone interested in building a strong knowledge base to safely and effectively apply herbs in your life. I am not a spokesperson for them I am just an incredibly satisfied and grateful customer.

I focus most of my attention on ways to incorporate more essential nutrients into every day meals. I truly believe the body is built to heal itself, however when we are lacking in nutrition organ functions are not optimal. Things that fascinate me most are simple and delicious ways to benefit from plant medicines especially getting the most vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients that may be lacking in our other foods. I enjoy the chemistry of mixing plants and people, we are all unique, in herbalism and in yoga there is no "prescription". We each have a variety of different needs so there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" approach to holistic health. If you are interested in beginning your journey to support your health and the health of your family please contact me or investigate any of the above mentioned books and courses. Remember prevention is the #1 cure. Together we can find ways to optimize and maintain your health! You may not even need a huge overhaul to your lifestyle. https://cyndigill333.wixsite.com/mysite
***Final note because I started my studies in the magic of herbs as a young girl, my herb studies centered around common household herbs and spices that were easy to obtain or simply around. I did this so I wouldn't draw attention to my interest, but I'm extremely grateful to have spent so much time on herbs and spices that most people can easily place. It is so easy to increase your wellness with foods you are already accustomed to and maybe you will find a few more you love too!
